An excellent little pistol. I have rather large hands and have difficulty handling some smaller deep carry handguns, but this one fills the hand nicely and has excellent stippling for better grip. There is a lot of negativity about this gun online, but after replacing the polymer guide rod with a stainless steel one I have no complaints.
This little gun was an impulse purchase after seeing the rebate Beretta was offering. I had read reviews about the gritty, poor trigger and still wanted to see for myself.
It is a nice size. My hands are on the wide side with shorter fingers ; the gun fits very well with the included 8 round mag. The stippling and grip are well done by Beretta. If you drop this it is on you. I do wish it came with 2 mags, but for the price I guess that is ok. Out of the cardboard box the trigger was just as many reported. Coarse and gritty. I cleaned it up, threw a snap cap in and proceeded to dry-fire it into submission. This tactic did not work (much).
The gun's first trip to the range revealed how negatively the trigger affects the gun. Hard to get a good group, even at 15 feet. It was 100% reliable through the first 200 rounds, in spite not being very fun to shoot. Something had to be done.
I decided to tear it down and investigate the trigger issue. I came to the conclusion that the gritty feeling was mostly from the firing pin safety plunger (in the slide) and not necessarily the trigger module. Polishing up the safety plunger (which is a weird shape) made a huge difference. I also took the trigger module apart and polished all the surfaces that rub together (safety release, sear and the trigger bar to frame). After putting it back together the trigger felt much better; the pull was still kind of heavy, but acceptable, and the break was much much cleaner. Part of the heavy pull is the fact that the sear has to finish pulling the striker back, similar to how a glock does. Probably as an added safety.
Another trip to the range to test the gun with trigger 2.0. It was a very different gun. Actually enjoyable to shoot now! I was able to hold a nice grouping even at 30 feet+. The gun was again 100% reliable through about 200 rounds of 115,124 FMJ and 25 rounds of JHP defensive ammo. The trigger work definitely paid off.
Just picked up my Beretta APX A1 Carry 9mm Wolf Grey which I purchased from Gunprime. Nice Gun at a great price. Purchase via Gunprime was easy and fast.
I love the Berreta apx a1 carry. I wish they had more sight plates for it ! There currently isn’t an RMR footprint plate which is limiting on RDOsights.
The pistol itself is awesome!
