Outstanding service by the gun prime staff. The gun had a flaw from the factory and the gun prime staff exchange the gun quickly and with extreme professionalism. Much appreciated for the quick work.

The rifle is outstanding and solid. I would highly recommend this Marlin model.

Raw, Untamed Power. Overall, great with 2 minor gripes.

This is my 2nd .45-70 rifle, the first being an original Springfield Trapdoor Model 1884.

The Ruger-Marlin 1895 is an amazing rifle. Fit, finish, weight and balance are all great. I've had this rifle for about a month now. I've shot about 100 rounds through it and the action is now buttery smooth. Zero failures to feed or eject. I've shot round nose lead, Hi-Tek coated lead, Berry's plated flat nose and Hornady JHP. All have fed perfectly and all cases ejected with no issues. Shooting the Berry's plated bullets at a mild 1,600 FPS is a nice, low recoil load. With AA5744, it gives you a big fireball and a loud thump. I've only begun to experiment with more powerful loads, mainly with the 300gr Hornady JHP. I'm only at the starting load with IMR 4198 launching the 300gr slugs at a smokin 2,300 FPS. Honestly, they kicked, but they weren't obnoxious. I was actually a bit surprised. The rifle, even though it's on the light side, tames the recoil pretty well. The recoil pad absolutely helps with that too. Barrel is threaded and includes a protector with an o-ring to prevent it from loosening.

Now, for the 2 minor gripes. Gripe #1: The internal edges of the ejection port and feeding port are NOT deburred. Now, me being a machinist, I noticed them immediately and was a bit disappointed. There are some pretty sharp burrs that scratched up my brass a bit. And, if you run your finger along an edge, it could cut you. I'll be gently filing the edges to deburr them.

Gripe #2: The exterior finish of the receiver is a bit thin. I put my 1895 in my safe and closed the door and it rubbed against my AR-15 lower receiver and put a minor scratch on it. Now I've bumped, dropped, slid, scratched, etc. my AR-15 quite a bit and the anodized coating has held up significantly better than the 1895 finish. Not too big of a deal. Just an observation between finishes.

Overall, the Ruger-Marlin is a great rifle. Smooth, slick, light weight and beautiful. I also swapped out the stock sights for the XS ghost ring sights and picatinny rail. Installation was almost perfect except I needed to grind 1 of the screws down. It bottomed out before it tightened down the rail. The rifle looks great with the XS setup. I highly recommend this rifle. I'm not a hunter, but I'm sure it'll get the job done. I just love big bore thumpers and the 1895 in .45-70 is just that: a big ole thumper!

One more thing to add: The was my first Gunprime purchase and it was awesome. Add to cart, pick a FFL, pay. The rifle was shipped 2 days later and I picked it up at the FFL 3 days later. Gunprime also had this rifle available and for less than other distributors. I will definitely be doing future orders from Gunprime.
